Abstract

Background: Carlos Juan Finlay dedicated his life to scientific research, but his work is unquestionable not just in medicine, but also in history, all of which impacted on humanity. This has been motivation for the work of a group of artists who have honored him with works that constitute genuine artistic and cultural heritage in Cuba.

Objective: To expose the main works in which Carlos Juan Finlay served as inspiration to the artists.

Methodology: An exhaustive search and review was conducted in spanish language. Information for the last 10 years was collected from the Google Scholar search engine, high impact scientific journals and in SciELO database. A total of 30 articles were obtained, to which were applied as selection criteria full articles, with available references that refer to the general objective of the study, and 16 bibliographies were found that corresponded to the same.

Results: Artistic works are presented in which their creators reflected important moments in the life of Carlos Juan Finlay. Painting, statues and sculpture are some of the represented artistic manifestations, revealed at different epochs but that maintain a value for history.

Conclusions: The works of artists who were inspired by Finlay enhance the identity and culture of the nation, likewise is a homage to all the professionals who, like him, dedicate their efforts to caring for the health of thousands people.
