Career development strategy for managing scientific and methodological information for medical sciences cadres
Abstract
Background: Scientific and methodological information is essential in institutional decision-making, but it is not always properly managed by the management staff at medical universities.
Objective: To propose a strategy for professional improvement in the scientific and methodological information management by cadres of medical science professionals.
Methodology: The research was conducted in three stages;the first stage consisted of a transverse descriptive design, which included 49 cadres from the Sancti Spiritus Medical Sciences University, to which a questionnaire and an interview were applied in order to explore the scientific and methodological information level they possess, in addition the knowledge about their handling and the advisement on the management of this information type; the second with a qualitative design, at this stage the historical logical methods were applied, synthesis analysis and functional structural systems to design the career development strategy for the management of scientific and methodological information; In the third, the peer review method was used to assess the strategy in terms of its relevance, scientific value and potential social impact.
Results: The 73.8% of the cadres have scientific and methodological information low level, 59.18% have difficulties in handling this type of information; 87.76% consider that counseling is not effective. The proposed strategy was considered relevant, well-founded and with potential social impact.
Conclusions: The proposed professional development strategy is theoretically well-founded; is relevant and has a potential social impact in the institutional context of the university.
