Abstract

Background: The medical specialist training based on competences is a necessity because society demands competent professionals, capable to use the scientific universe as a function of the economic, political and social development in the place where they work.

Objective: To apply interdisciplinary didactic procedures for the clinical reasoning development in oncoplastic surgery in the residents of the Plastic Surgery and Caumatology specialty of the Camilo Cienfuegos General Provincial Hospital in Sancti Spíritus.

Methodology: Methods of the theoretical, empirical and mathematical-statistical level were applied, as well as documentary analysis, interviews, the Mini-Clinical Evaluation Exercise (Mini-CEX) and a pedagogical pre-experiment. The sample consisted by 6 3rd and 4th year specialty residents, the dimensions: anamnesis, physical examination, clinical criteria, communication skills, professionalism and organization were evaluated in the pretest and post-test.

Results: In the diagnostic period, deficiencies in the clinical reasoning development in oncoplastic surgery of the residents of the Plastic Surgery and Caumatology specialty were observed. Improvement of the values (all in the higher level) was observed in the evaluation period (Pretest and post-test).

Conclusions: The interdisciplinary didactic procedures showed their contribution to the training and development of clinical reasoning in oncoplastic surgery at Plastic Surgery and Caumatology residents.
