Status of intestinal parasitism in the area of Perea. July 2001- April 2002.

Abstract

Infectious diseases are an important cause of morbimortality in most of the planet, among them intestinal parasitism occupies an important place. The present work has the purpose to study the status of intestinal parasitism in the Family Doctor’s Clinic (FDC) #9 of the health area of Peréa. A study of retrospective descriptive type was made in the period from July of 2001 to April of 2002. 30 patients of the Clinic were studied through a survey, clinical records and laboratory analyses. An analysis was made of a series of variables such as: age, sex, most common clinical manifestations, different parasites found and predisposing factors associated to parasitism such as: If they boiled water or not, deposition of excrement,  use of footwear, washing of fruits and vegetables and the origin of drinking water. It was shown that the most affected sex is the female one, the age of 0-10 years  is  the one with the greatest parasitism, the predisposing factor associated to parasitism is  unboiled and untreated well water, the deposition of excrement was done in different ways, the most frequent clinical symptom is abdominal pain and the most common parasite is Giardia  Lamblia.
