About the Journal
Focus and Scope
The Gaceta Médica Espirituana (GME) is an Open Access journal, it is the official organ of scientific exposure of the Provincial Center of Medical Sciences Information of the University of Medical Sciences of Sancti Spiritus, Cuba. Its objective is to publish scientific results related to health and training of human resources for the sector; the journal is mainly intented for researchers and professionals from any place worldwide. It is published every four months and publishes full-text original research articles, whose nomenclature may vary such as: original reports, pedagogical research, brief communications, history in health sciences; it also publishes review articles, systematic reviews, case reports, letters to the editor and editorials, all related to the areas of research, assistance and health teaching.
The editing and publication of the contributions is completely free of taxes for all authors; likewise the refereeing process by the referees or reviewers is conducted without any kind of remuneration. There is no policy of fee waiver for authors from developing countries.
There is no commercial or lucrative use, is also not accepted or hosted advertising for any product, person or service mentioned.
This journal complies with the Uniformity Requirements for manuscripts submitted to biomedical journals of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and with the certification requirements established for scientific-technological serials, provided by the section three, Article 20 of Resolution No. 59/2003 of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA) of the Republic of Cuba.
Applies in the review, correction and publication process the established international standards or best practices (Committee on Publication Ethics, Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association, International System of Units, International Classification of Diseases, International Nonproprietary Names for Drugs and Health Sciences Descriptors, Reporting guidelines for main study types).Peer Review Process
The review process requires the selection of reviewers, who are asked to submit a curriculum vitae that is analyzed by the GME Editorial Committee for approval or not; so far more than 75% of them are external to the sponsoring institution.
The referees system for all the documents sent to GME is open peer review; this process will be conducted by external evaluators from the publishing institution of the journal; this review will have at least 2 expert reviewers, and if there is any kind of controversy a third reviewer will be requested; these must respond within 7 days whether they will make the evaluation or not, and within 15 days to do so.
The evaluation period will not take more than 80 days; during this period the authors will be receiving information about the document evolution and the editorial decision will be sent by e-mail to the main author or leader of the research:
- Accept submission
- Publishable with modifications
- Re-evaluable
- Not publishable
Open Access Policy
The GME journal publishes under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0) license, which permits unrestricted non-commercial use, distribution and reproduction at any medium, provided that the primary source of publication is properly cited.
This journal provides free and immediate access (Open Access) to its content under the value that, making research freely available to the public supports a bigger knowledge exchange.
