Características clínicas y epidemiológicas de los pacientes con lesiones deformantes bucomaxilofaciales en la población espirituana

Resumen

Fundamento: El aumento considerable de pacientes necesitados de tratamiento rehabilitador con lesiones bucomaxilofaciales en la provincia de Sancti Spíritus, es una de las causa importante para que se investigue este problema de salud, lo cual permitirá la planificación de los recursos para la rehabilitación de cada paciente. Objetivo: Describir las características clínico-epidemiológicas de los pacientes con lesiones bucomaxilofaciales que necesitan tratamiento rehabilitador. Metodología: Se realizó una investigación descriptiva en el período comprendido entre noviembre de 1998 y febrero del 2008, la población quedó conformada por 407 pacientes rehabilitados con prótesis restauratriz,  se realizó la distribución de frecuencia según variables seleccionadas, edad, sexo, color de la piel,  experiencia protésica, origen y localización del defecto. Resultados: Predominó el defecto ocular, el sexo más afectado fue el masculino; asimismo los pacientes de raza blanca fueron los que predominaron y el factor etiológico de mayor incidencia fue el traumático. Conclusiones: El comportamiento clínico-epidemiológico de las lesiones bucomaxilofacial en la población espirituana mostró una necesidad real de tratamiento rehabilitador.

ABSTRACT

Background: The considerable increase of needy patients of rehabilitative treatment with buccomaxillofacial lesions in the county of Sancti Spíritus is one of the important causes of this problem of health to be   investigated, which will allow the planning of the resources for each patient's rehabilitation. Objective: To describe the clinical-epidemic behavior of the buccomaxillofacial lesions that need of rehabilitative treatment.   Methodology: It was carried out a descriptive investigation in the period understood from November 1998 and February 2008, the population was formed by 407 patients rehabilitated with restorative prosthesis, it was carried out the distribution of frequency according to selected variables, age, sex, color of the skin, prosthetic experience, origin and localization of the defect. Results: The ocular defect prevailed, the most affected sex was the masculine; also the patients of white race were those that prevailed and the etiological factor of more incidences was the traumatic. Conclusions: The clinical-epidemic behavior of the buccomaxillofacial lesions in the population from Sancti Spíritus showed a real necessity of rehabilitative treatment.
